OFFICE OF THE MAGISTRATE, 10TH OCTOBER

THE HUNT, of which the Magistrate had the pleasure of speaking on Sunday evening, is confirmed. The party assembles at GARDEN REACH on Saturday the 15th instant, at FIVE o'clock in the morning, and proceeds thence into the district. The Magistrate's own elephants and shikarree are engaged; the camp is made ahead; guns will be found for any gentleman who does not bring his own; the ladies are provided for in every particular. The party lies at camp on Saturday night, the drive is made on Sunday, and the return is by Sunday evening. A tiger has been marked in the district.

Sat 15 – Sun 16 OctThe Magistrate's tiger hunt. Assembly at Garden Reach, five in the morning; a night under canvas in the district; return Sunday evening. The second Sunday at St John's is lost to it.

Tue 25 OctKali Puja — the festival of the goddess, kept on the new moon at the end of the rains. Lamps, offerings, and rites at the burning ghats. The whole city will be out. ● new moon
