Horror Long Corridor

Description

A squat humanoid shape with no head. Large eyes and a viciously fanged mouth sit on its torso. Two arms and two legs, all ending in vicious claws. The entire body is covered in thick, black, oily fur — matted with encrusted blood from its kills. The fur provides warmth and camouflage in the shadows.

Horrors can go a week without food and need not drink water as long as their kill has blood. The only part of a kill they cannot consume are the bones, though they chew on them and eat the marrow as a delicacy.

Behaviour

Horrors form tribal groups and fight each other, claiming the weakest as food. They are highly aware of their precarious existence — even the strongest tribe never slaughters an entire enemy group, preserving them to breed and produce future meals.

Their preferred method means lone targets are not instantly attacked. A Horror or its tribe observes first, assessing whether the target appears harmless or at least not a serious challenge. Only then does an attack take place. Anything unfamiliar is treated carefully until its threat level is assessed. Hunger or fear may override this caution.

The Long Corridor (Autumn 1813)

The Horrors inhabited the Dark Realm on the other side of the portal at Northlake Hall. During the first expedition, the investigators got out before the creatures reached them. One Horror escaped through the portal overnight and killed sheep on the estate grounds.

During the second expedition, after Georgiana Wentworth performed the blood ritual to close the portal, the Horrors descended on the retreating group. The armed NPC men stopped to shoot, covering the ladies’ escape — the creatures killed them. James Bennet was overtaken while running, dismembered and consumed. His death slowed the Horrors enough for the surviving investigators to escape.
