Freddy Cavendish

The Honourable Frederick Cavendish, 22. Second son of William, 3rd Baron Cavendish of Stanmere. Socially connected, he procured Masquerade invitations and masks for the party. Not a member of the Order of St. Aelfric, but has witnessed the supernatural firsthand — including the Nightgaunt attack on Palais Kinsky.

Adrien de Montferrand

Viscount de Montferrand. French aristocrat and former cavalry officer who hosts the party at Palais Kinsky in Vienna. Member of the Order of St Aelfric, recruited during the Vienna chapter. Led the charge to the Polizeidirektion and delivered the killing blow to the Nightgaunt.

  • Player: Anna
  • Introduced: Vienna (Chapter 3)
  • Replaced: Marina Garrick

Emma Wentworth

Wiltshire gentlewoman, 17, from Tarryford. Theatre-obsessed after the Drury Lane incident. Courageous and curious in equal measure. Campaign-defining moment in Session 6: bit the Nightgaunt’s neck during combat, tearing away flesh. Subject of Graf Sternberg’s romantic pursuit; Thomas Wyndham is in love with her.

  • Player: Missy
  • Introduced: The Long Corridor (Chapter 0.1)
  • No character changes
  • Manias: Theatre, Music
  • Phobias: Children (ciimba, Chapter 2)
  • Status: SAN 35/60; recovered from indefinite insanity — fully wiped away by the visit to the pyramids with Thomas (Giza, 18 September 1814; Keeper ruling 2026-08-23). Manias and phobia remain.

Georgiana Wentworth

Emma’s elder sister, 20. Gentlewoman researcher from Tarryford. Sharp-minded and composed under pressure. Drew swords in her nightgown during the Nightgaunt attack. Identified the Nightgaunt from the Revelations of Glaaki.

  • Player: Beth
  • Introduced: The Long Corridor (Chapter 0.1)
  • No character changes
  • Phobias: Theatre (Drury Lane, Chapter 0.5), Fish (Chapter 0.6)

Katherine Ward

Real name: Katherine Langley, alias “the Rook.” Age 31. Spy and Order of St Aelfric operative. Cover identity: widow of Captain Edward Ward (Royal Navy), working as a companion for young ladies. Trained thief and infiltrator. Encountered a Hound of Tindalos at St. Margaret’s Academy and contained it by disrupting angles.

  • Player: Juel
  • Introduced: Session 7 (Vienna)
  • Replaced: Charlotte Thorne
  • Character files: Katherine Ward Sheet, Katherine Ward Background

Havildar Pratap Singh

Havildar (sergeant) of the 67th Bengal Native Infantry, 30. Assigned to the party as guide and liaison on the compliments of the District Magistrate, Charles Ashworth, and taken up on the landing steps at Chandpal Ghat on 8 October 1814. Impeccable English, impeccable bearing, endlessly obliging, and the man who solves the problem before anyone has named it. Quartered in a cabin by the stables at the Cavendish Compound.

Former & Retired PCs

Varrio Harrowmont (retired)

Dr. Septimus Harrowmont. Order of St Aelfric consulting surgeon and Venice-cell veteran; killed Brenner (Session 2) and was a mainstay of the Vienna fight. Reduced to 0 SAN in the Vienna climax and retired from play (Chapter 4, Session 1). Charlotte is escorting him home to England. Phil went on to Nathaniel Holt and now plays Havildar Pratap Singh. (Previously: Jacob, Delaroche.)

Thomas Wyndham

British Army officer (Light Dragoons) from London. Loyal, volatile, deeply in love with Emma Wentworth. Keeper NPC throughout the campaign. Maintained armed vigil outside Emma’s room after the Nightgaunt attack. Subject of the Sternberg duel subplot.

Nathaniel Holt (departed)

Lieutenant, Royal Navy, 29. Phil’s voyage character, aboard La Speranza and the Shah Alam as “ship’s doctor” though he was no surgeon. Held the crew together through the becalming and went into the dark on Socotra to cut Freddy out of a cocoon, taking a bite through the chest for it. Gave a brief theatrical farewell on the landing steps at Chandpal Ghat on 8 October 1814 and walked into Calcutta, leaving three debts unpaid. Now a Keeper NPC somewhere in the city. Phil moved to Havildar Pratap Singh.

Charlotte Thorne

Northumberland heiress, archaeologist, author. Steady, perceptive, deeply skeptical of the uncanny. Previously played by Juel; retired in Session 7 after severe Nightgaunt wounds. As of Chapter 4 she is escorting Varrio home to England.
