PC Arc Summary
Player: Jay. Chapters played: 0 (Before the Canticle), 1 (London), 2 (Lyon, through Orphans’ Hospital Raid). Replacement character: Colonel Henri Moreau.
Augustus Bolt was one of the five original investigators of the campaign, alongside Marina Garrick, Emma Wentworth, Georgiana Wentworth, and Charlotte Thorne. He was Jay’s first character in the campaign — a gentleman who came to the adventure through social connections and stayed through conviction.
Origin
Augustus entered the campaign at the end of the Long Corridor (Chapter 0.1) — Jay’s second character, taken up after James Bennet’s death at Northlake Hall. He trained through the Winter 1813 montage at Hartwell House with the other survivors (Keeper-confirmed 2026-07-04). A friend of Thomas Huntley, he later attended the Huntley wedding at Bath (Chapter 0.6) as the Order’s quiet presence.
Key Moments
- Chapter 0.1 (After Tarryford): Joined after Bennet’s death; trained at Hartwell House through Winter 1813.
- Chapter 0.5 (Drury Lane): Burned Mercer’s monologue — paired with Jane breaking the back-room mirror — the act that broke the time loop. See Chapter 0.5 Wrap Up.
- Chapter 0.6 (Bath): Attended the Huntley wedding; questioned Francis Fable; stabbed by Marina (temporary insanity) at the Siren’s cave — survived.
- Chapter 1 (London): Active investigator. Part of the original London party alongside Marina, Emma, Georgiana, and Charlotte.
- Chapter 2 (Lyon) — Road to Puyrault’s Estate: Bitten by ciimba on the road to Puyrault’s estate. The bite caused sickness — making Augustus the first party casualty of the Lyon chapter.
- Chapter 2 (Lyon) — Orphans’ Hospital Raid (Death): At the Orphans Hospital Raid, Augustus went out front alone to hold off five Blue Sash reinforcements arriving at the hospital. He sustained mortal wounds in the fighting. Jacob rushed to his side to save him and critically failed the First Aid check — shoving his thumb into Augustus’s wound, killing him. Jay subsequently took over Colonel Moreau as his character.
Masquerade

Thematic Role in the Campaign
Augustus’s death at the Orphans’ Hospital was the campaign’s first loss in the Lyon chapter and part of a devastating cascade: within minutes of Augustus dying under Jacob’s hands, Marina shot Jacob dead in the basement below. Two PCs killed in the same building within minutes of each other. The Orphans’ Hospital Raid remains the single bloodiest scene of the campaign.
Augustus went down fighting — holding the line alone against superior numbers to buy the rest of the party time. His death was the death of a soldier, even though he was a gentleman by occupation.
