Commissaire Jules Delaroche
Player: Phil. Chapters played: 2 (Lyon, from after the Orphans’ Hospital Raid to the Silkweavers’ Guild Assault). Replacement character: Varrio Harrowmont (Chapter 3).
Delaroche began Chapter 2 as Savarin’s hostage — the police commissioner of Lyon, coerced through threats to his daughter into shielding the Choir’s Lyon cell. The investigators offered protection for his family and turned him into their inside source. When Jacob died at the Orphans’ Hospital, Phil took Delaroche up as his character, and the informant became an investigator.
- Chapter 2 (Lyon) — Redemption: Turned against Savarin once his family was protected; supplied records, warnings, and the map of who else she owned in the gendarmerie.
- Chapter 2 (Lyon) — Silkweavers’ Guild Assault (Death): Led his own police against the Guild’s front entrance while the party went in through the sewers — the two-pronged assault that destroyed the Chakota, killed Savarin, and rescued the children’s choir. Delaroche died trying to scale a barricade, cut down by a Blue Sash. See Silkweavers Guild Assault.
Delaroche was the campaign’s proof that Savarin’s hostages could be unmade — the man who spent the chapter forced to protect the Choir and died breaking it, with his daughter safe and his office clean. Phil’s second character lost in a single chapter, in the same assault that took Marina Garrick.
