Ashworth Letter to Blackwood
Description
A letter of introduction written by Ashworth in his own hand, on the spot at his office on 12 October 1814, addressed to Colonel Blackwood at Fort William. Freddy had come to ask Ashworth’s help keeping Major Renwick in Calcutta rather than see him posted to the Nepal campaign. Ashworth wrote the letter there and then, and added a personal postscript in his own hand: that he himself would be sorry to lose Renwick from the Baranagar embankment works.
Freddy still carries the letter. It has not yet been delivered to Colonel Blackwood at Fort William.
