Georgiana Egyptian Dress
Current Holder: Georgiana Wentworth
Origin: Alexandria souk, Chapter 4 Session 4
Description
A custom dress commissioned in the Alexandria souk alongside Emma’s and Katherine’s own. Where Emma chose fabric for its beauty, Georgiana specified the cut: long sleeves, requested outright and without explanation to the tailor. Finished, like the others, with a hidden interior pocket sewn into the lining.
Properties
- Long sleeves — the defining feature of the commission, chosen deliberately rather than for fashion.
- Hidden interior pocket — requested alongside the other women’s dresses.
- Souk-made, finished within the same overnight turnaround as the other commissions.
History
Commissioned during the party’s shopping expedition through the Alexandria souk (Chapter 4, Session 4), guided by Rosa. The long sleeves serve a practical concealment function, not merely fashion: Georgiana’s transformation — the iridescent mark on her left hand and forearm, bonded to the Command Tuning Fork since the destruction of the Harmonic Engine — had by this point crept past her wrist (Emma noticed it in Session 2) and past the edge of her gloves (Rosa noticed it in Session 3). The dress is armour against discovery as much as it is clothing.
Notably, the concealment failed to hold at the Hammam al-Yasmin later in the same session, where the bathhouse’s communal, unclothed setting exposed the mark to Umm Salma and the assembled bathers — who read it not as affliction but as baraka, a divine blessing. The dress’s sleeves protect Georgiana from casual, everyday discovery; they cannot protect her in settings where concealment is impossible.
