Emma Egyptian Dress
Current Holder: Emma Wentworth
Origin: Alexandria souk, Chapter 4 Session 4
Description
A custom dress cut from a bolt of peacock shot silk — turquoise warp, gold weft — that Emma found hanging in the covered lanes of the Alexandria souk. Still and unmoving, the fabric reads as a deep blue-green; caught in motion or lamplight, it shifts to molten gold. Commissioned overnight from a souk tailor working by lamplight, and finished with a hidden interior pocket sewn into the lining at Emma’s request.
Properties
- Colour-shift silk — turquoise warp and gold weft; appears blue-green when still, molten gold when the wearer moves or the light catches it.
- Hidden interior pocket — requested by Emma along with the other women’s dresses; the souk tailors accommodated the request without comment.
- Overnight commission — a mark of the tailor’s skill and the party’s willingness to pay for speed.
History
Commissioned during the party’s shopping expedition through the Alexandria souk (Chapter 4, Session 4), guided by Rosa. Emma was drawn to the bolt of shot silk among the market’s hanging robes and striped cottons, and had the dress made up overnight alongside Georgiana’s and Katherine’s own commissions. Made and worn in the same stretch of days that saw Emma buy protective gifts for herself and Thomas — the scarab pin and the St. George necklace — and receive a beaded veil from Thomas in return.
