Pnakotic Manuscripts
Current Holder: Georgiana Wentworth
Origin: Josiah Venn
Description
A bound manuscript copy in English, in a cracked calf binding, with a sale ticket from a London auction room still inside the front cover. The margins of the first quire carry pencilled notes in Dr Venn’s failing hand, cross-referring the text to his case of instruments.
What It Does
An old English text, translator unknown, on what held the Earth before men. Dr Venn bought it as a curiosity about “antediluvian mechanics”.
History
Found in the study of Dr Venn’s bungalow in Chowringhee on the night of Wednesday 12 October 1814, shelved among his works on natural philosophy, and taken by Georgiana Wentworth.
