Background
Approximately nine years before this session (around 1805), Harry Ord came to Calcutta asking questions about his family’s business agent. He attended at least one social event, where Harriet Courtney met him, and was never seen at a social event again afterward. Nothing in the record since confirms what became of him — no burial, no passage home, no probate — only that he stopped appearing.
The Ord family name appears on the same subscription list of families entangled with the godown syndicate that the Wentworths were drawn into (per Absentee Account Pattern), discovered this session through Freddy’s audit at the Writers Building. Harriet Courtney recalled Harry Ord by name when Emma Wentworth and Georgiana Wentworth visited her asking about other English families in the same position as their own.
