The parish priest of the Church of St Louis in Chandernagore, who has baptised, married and buried the French town for thirty years under every government it has had.
Overview
The parish priest of the Church of St Louis in Chandernagore, who has baptised, married and buried the French town for thirty years under every government it has had. He rings the Angelus himself when the sacristan is drunk, which is often.
Appearance & Manner
Tall, stooped and very thin, in a cassock gone green at the seams, with big farmer’s hands and a laugh too loud for a church. He speaks French with a Breton accent, Bengali well enough to scold the bazaar, and English badly.
History
Came out in the 1780s as a young missionary priest and was given the parish when his predecessor died of fever. He has not had a letter from his bishop in years.
