She cross-referenced the Revelations of Gla’aki against the Calcutta Gazette’s weather reports and what she knew of celestial alignments, and worked until the answer resolved: October the twenty-fifth. The night of Kali Puja — a tantric festival of the Hindu goddess of death, held at cremation grounds on the new moon at the monsoon’s end, marked by animal sacrifice and offerings of red hibiscus and rice, and rites performed in darkness.

The same pattern as Stonehenge and Vienna: a date of deep mystical significance, chosen by people who understood exactly what they were doing.

Context

The party arrived in Bengal knowing Calcutta was an active ritual city, knowing Ghosh’s name, and holding one vague geographic marker — “the Hugli bends inland.” They had no deadline of any kind.

It arrived a scene early and by a different road. No NPC gave it to them, and no roll gatekept it.

Outcome & Consequences

• The chapter’s clock now exists and the party owns it. Sixteen in-game days from 9 October to the ritual.

• Ashworth Dinner Garden Reach loses its headline beat. Ashworth’s date-delivery is now confirmation rather than revelation — arguably worth more, since it tells the party a British magistrate regards Kali Puja as a traffic problem. Repoint the scene at Ghosh and the Baron.

• In the same scene, unwitnessed, the transformation advanced: webbing between her fingers had grown, and the mark on her forearm crept further toward the elbow. She noticed alone as she closed her books before dawn. There is no record of her telling anyone.
