The party comes off five weeks of blue water into the mouth of the Hooghly, lands at Chandpal Ghat in the rain, and is catalogued by Calcutta inside forty-eight hours. Nathaniel Holt says goodbye on the landing steps; Havildar Pratap Singh presents himself in the same breath. Three days later the whole city knows their names.
