Description
Quiet and efficient, and very good at his job in the specific way a man becomes good at a job that punishes him for doing it badly. He absorbs Hewitt’s abuse without response, in front of whoever happens to be watching, and then he goes on laying out the man’s shaving things.
He is the person who brings Hewitt his tray in the morning. He is the person who cannot wake him.
Background
Hewitt’s servant, travelling back to Calcutta with him. That is the whole of what anybody on the caravan knows, because nobody has asked him anything else, including Hewitt.
Motivations
To get to Calcutta. To not be noticed. Both of these become impossible on the morning of the murder.

Outcome (Session 6)
He was, exactly as the design intended, the mob’s instant and unanimous suspect: Indian, with access and motive, and glad the man was dead. Pelham was loudest in accusing him. The investigators ran an investigation instead of a hanging, cleared him when the real killer confessed, and moved on. Freddy paid Abu Yusef a generous sum of Spanish silver to keep and care for him, and Rajan stayed behind at the wadi when the caravan pulled out, masterless and, for the first time in a long time, safe. His future is open; a servant who knows the party did him an unbought kindness is a usable thread if he ever resurfaces in Calcutta.
