Colonel Henri Moreau
Player: Jay. Chapters played: 2 (Lyon, from after the Orphans’ Hospital Raid), 3 (Vienna, through Session 5). Replacement character: Freddy Cavendish (Session 6 onward).
Moreau came to the party as an ally with veterans at his back, and when Gus died at the Orphans’ Hospital, Jay took him up as a character. He gave the party its military spine through the end of Lyon and into Vienna, until the Brotherhood had him murdered on a public boulevard.
- Chapter 2 (Lyon) — Silkweavers’ Guild Assault: Commanded the veterans who held the tunnel line and delivered the volley that killed Savarin. When Marina lunged at him in her final break, he spun her into the Chakota’s mass — and her dying explosion killed the creature and nearly killed him. See Silkweavers Guild Assault.
- Chapter 3 (Vienna), Session 5 — The Graben (Death): Assassinated on the evening of 7 August 1814 by the Bauer brothers under contract from Adler. Three stab wounds, staged as a robbery. First PC death of the Vienna chapter. See Moreau Graben Assassination.
Moreau’s murder sharpened Vienna’s tone — the chapter was a kill zone, not a diplomatic posting. His death kept working after him: his body’s recovery to the Josephinum produced Fischbein’s intelligence chain, and the false release order that freed his arrested killer became the first hard evidence against Captain Vogel.
